Mom and Dad: Build the right ship

We have all used the saying that you are waiting for your ship to come in. Obviously, this has everything to do with money and possessions — that day when you will feel that you finally have enough money and can continue your life’s journey without any stress about your finances. This “ship” causes people to rush frantically through life. Stress levels are extremely high, and the pressure that you and the system place on yourself is, most of the time, unbearable. No wonder depression levels in our beautiful country are so abnormally high. It all has to do with the “ship.”

In the Bible, another very well-known “ship” is mentioned, namely the ark. It is the ship that Noah built to save his household. It is a safe haven for a whole host of animals, but more importantly, for Noah and his family. It is a safe haven against raging floodwaters. It is a place where you can hide and shelter from the storms of life. Here, you and your family feel safe. It is a good and pleasant place. It is a place where we listen to one another, make time for one another, and truly care for one another. Your child wants to be on such a “ship.”

This “ship” has little to do with money and possessions. This “ship” has everything to do with love, relationships, strong bonds between parents and children, and a safe haven where your children can shelter from the floodwaters of life. You see, if the ship is absent and you do not intentionally build the ship, what remains is masses of overwhelming floodwaters. There is either a ship where you and your children feel safe, or floodwaters in which you and your children drown. It is a fact that many of our young people today live highly decadent lives and are struggling deeply. They need this “ship” more than ever in history.

John West says the following powerful, true words about the time in which we live today:

Ever since sin entered the world, human beings have sought excuses for their behaviour, but materialism handed us an inexhaustible supply of excuses.

One ship has everything to do with the pursuit of money and possessions. The other ship is the ship of relationships, the ship of a happy and healthy family. It is the ship that saves lives today. It is the ship that our young people desperately long for and cry out for.

Which ship are you building in your home?
