Trust God for every step on your life’s journey

Human beings are very fragile and doubt so easily. Thankfully, God understands this and forgives us our little faith. Yes, He made us and is gracious toward us. You may often feel that the Lord is only interested in the broad strokes of your life, but what about the details? Can you trust God with that one important test or exam you are writing? Can you trust Him to restore a relationship that matters to you? Is God really also there and available to help you in the small things? Matthew 10:30 gives you a wonderful truth:

Even the hairs of your head are all numbered.

Wow, that is fine detail indeed. There are thousands of hairs on one person’s head — not to mention millions of people’s heads! Yet God is involved in the smallest detail of every person and wants to be part of that in your life too. That is why Scripture uses the image of the hairs on your head. You do not need to wonder; you do not need to doubt: God is always there to help you!

The well-known Corrie ten Boom, who suffered for a long time during the Second World War in a Nazi concentration camp, said the following about worry:

Today’s worry does nothing to make tomorrow’s problems smaller; it only robs us of the strength we could have had today. Worry does not help us escape what we fear. It only makes us too weak to handle it when it comes. Worry is the interest a person pays on problems before they even arrive.

A very important principle is contained in these words. The negative emotion of being confused and worried because you believe God is not there to help you weakens a person. Yes, it steals your strength. It leaves you vulnerable to further attacks from the devil. You become a fragile target that grows ever more fragile — increasingly believing the devil’s lies. All of this while the truth is captured in Matthew 6:26:

Look at the birds of the air: they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.

Søren Kierkegaard said these striking and true words:

“Life must be lived forward; it can only be understood backwards.”

That is why faith and trust are so important: you and I must hold on now, believe unwaveringly, and trust God even when we cannot yet see anything. Even when things seem dark as night, you know God’s light is there. Even when it feels like no one is there to hear you or help you, you know that God is there—and He will help.
